Editorial Policies

Focus and Scope

The Journal of Southeast Asian American Education and Advancement is an on-line and freely accessible interdisciplinary journal providing a forum for scholars and writers from diverse fields who share a common interest in Southeast Asian (SEA) Americans and their communities. JSAAEA is an official publication of The National Association for the Education and Advancement of Cambodian, Laotian, and Vietnamese Americans (NAFEA), with support from the department of Bicultural-Bilingual studies and the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Texas, San Antonio. The journal covers four broad areas with associated sub-areas:

    Contributions related to education and advancement will include original research and descriptions of effective programs and practice within SEA American communities. Contributions to the Creative and Literary Work section are encouraged from Southeast American students in K-12 or college, or other interested community members, which focus on issues of identity or the SEA American experience. Reviews of academic books on SEA Americans, as well as brief reviews of children’s literature related to SEA Americans, will also be published. While a major focus on the journal will be on SEA American refugee groups—Cambodian, Hmong, Laotian, Vietnamese, and others—research related to any SEA American group is welcome and will be considered.

    Peer Review Process

    Research articles submitted to the journal will go through the standard blind peer-review process. Submissions will be reviewed by two or more members of the Editorial Review Board and/or invited guest reviewers.

    Reviewers are asked to judge submissions based on the article's fit within the scope of the journal, the quality of research design, the adequacy of the research methods utilized, the importance of the research questions addressed, and the quality of the writing.

    Book Reviews and submissions to the Creative Works section will be reviewed internally by the Editors.

     

    Publication Frequency

    Articles published by JSAAEA will be added to the Table of Contents of the "current" volume as they become available.

     

    Open Access Policy

    The Journal of Southeast Asian American Education and Advancement provides open access to all of its contents on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. Such access is associated with increased readership and citation levels. JSAAEA uses open source software, developed by the Public Knowledge Project, to help make open access economically viable, as well as to improve the scholarly and public quality of research.

     

    Archiving

    This journal utilizes the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archiving system among participating libraries and permits those libraries to create permanent archives of the journal for purposes of preservation and restoration. More...
